There comes a time when a Go player realizes there is no turning back - that the struggle for mastery and understanding will continue for as long as we draw breath. Once this threshold is crossed, it makes sense to dedicate a small corner of our universe to Go, which has long since claimed a small corner of our selves.
For those who wish to create a personal space for Go study and competition, Shodan Imports has teamed up with the Japanese furniture experts at Matsu to provide everything you need for your Go sanctuary. Matsu has generously offered exclusive discounts to customers who purchase a traditional floor Goban from us. Details »
Zaisu chairs with Zabuton pillows
This is the same seating that professionals rely on during grueling title matches. After you experience the support and comfort of Zaisu chairs, you will understand why. The ergonomically curved Zaisu supports the lower back, while the Zabuton pillows provide comfort through even the longest and most intense contests.
The large, genuine Zabuton pillows are filled with 100% cotton, and come with removable, separately washable Japanese fabric covers. Matsu even allows you to select your own cover fabric from their extensive design catalog. (design SJ262BK shown in photos)
Some other importers (not Matsu) sell Zaisu paired with inferior, throwaway cushions. Unfortunately, those cheap cushions are thin, too small to cover the chair and will become a pain in the rear during long sessions.
Our experience is that Matsu doesn't cut corners - they really care about providing quality Japanese furniture to their customers. That's why we feel good about partnering with them and recommending them to our own customers.
There is no better deal anywhere on the internet or off. If you own a traditional Go board or are thinking of buying one, these Zaisu+Zabuton are a must-have accessory.
Goza rice mat
Students of the martial arts are familiar with the ritual of entering the
dojo - the sacred space of learning and honorable conflict. There's something about the act of taking off one's shoes and stepping onto the mat that calms the mind; focuses the spirit. It is the same with our martial art - our budo.
These 6'x3'x1/8" natural woven rice mats add a traditional quality to your Go sanctuary. The mats feel supportive yet springy underfoot.
The Goza mats arrive green, with the aroma of freshly cut rice grass. With time, the mat will age to a rich golden color. A few of these mats can turn even a harsh tile or concrete floor into a comfortable, inviting space.
The mats are lightweight and easily rolled up for convenient storage.
Shoji screens
Japanese Shoji folding screens are an elegant way to create an atmosphere of seclusion, enhancing concentration. These Shoji are made of attractive
stained wood and thick, handmade paper. The screens are
plain white on one side with textures and real leaves inlaid into the
paper on the reverse side.
A wooden guard panel at the bottom reduces the risk of accidental damage from errant feet. There are several sizes to choose from - the ones shown here are 5' tall with 4 double-jointed sections, each being 1.5' wide. A 4'-tall model is also available.
