Traditional Craftsmanship

Craftsman uses a chisel to carve the leg of a Traditional Go board.

What does it mean to create Go boards by traditional methods?  It means waiting for years as the wood ages and dries properly; hand-planing the playing surface; then waxing and buffing the board by hand instead of by machine.  It means meticulously chiselling legs out of wooden blocks and applying lines by katana with well-practiced precision.

Shodan Imports is proud to be supplied by one such master of his art.  Each Goban from master craftsman Keiji Miwa is beautiful, absolutely unique and hand-made with remarkable attention to detail.
